NABC NAIA Division I Coach, Player of the Year Announced

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) announced today that Ryan Moody of Benedictine (Kan.) College has been selected as the recipient of the 2019 NABC NAIA Division I Coach of the Year Award presented by Wilson.

 

LSU Shreveport (La.) senior Jeff Garrett, the leading rebounder in NAIA Division I this season, is the recipient of the 2019 NABC NAIA Division I Player of the Year Award powered by ShotTracker.

 

Moody guided Benedictine through a spectacular season, finishing with a 31-4 won-lost record that included a 29-game win streak. Moody was a standout player at Benedictine, which has earned four berths in the NAIA Division I championship tournament in his eight seasons as head coach. The Ravens ended the season in the second round of the championship with a double-overtime loss to the University of Pikeville in Kansas City.

 

A 6-7 forward out of Gadsen, Ala., Garrett finished the season ranked No. 1 in the NAIA in defensive rebounds per game (10.35), total rebounds per game (14.14) and total rebounds overall (481). The Red River Athletic Conference Player of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year and Newcomer of the Year hit on 53 percent of his field goal attempts this season and averaged almost 19 points per game.
