KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Iowa State University, the University of New Haven, the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, The Master’s University and Northwest Florida State College have been selected as the NABC Teams of the Week for games played Dec. 31-Jan. 6.
NCAA Division I – Iowa State
Head Coach: Steve Prohm
Iowa State opened Big 12 play with a pair of victories last week, winning at Oklahoma State on Wednesday before running past No. 5 Kansas on Saturday. The Cyclones limited OSU to 37.9-percent shooting in Wednesday’s 69-63 victory, and then forced 24 KU turnovers and made 13 three-pointers in Saturday’s 77-60 win. Iowa State’s victory over Kansas marked the program’s first against a top-five opponent since 2012.
NCAA Division II – New Haven (Conn.)
Head Coach: Ted Hotaling
New Haven won a pair of non-conference games last week to improve to 8-4 overall this season. The Chargers got a layup from Roy Kane with seven seconds remaining on Wednesday to defeat Dominican 65-64. Then on Saturday, New Haven shot 51-percent from the field in a 76-59 upset over 17th-ranked St. Thomas Aquinas. The Chargers have now rebounded from a four-game losing streak with three-straight victories.
NCAA Division III – Wisconsin-Eau Claire
Head Coach: Matt Siverling
Wisconsin-Eau Claire earned two road wins last week to open its WIAC schedule. On Wednesday, the Blugolds erased an eight-point halftime deficit to defeat UW-River Falls 68-59. Eau Claire followed that performance with a 69-65 win over No. 10 Wisconsin-Whitewater on Saturday – a game in which the Blugolds shot 51-percent overall and made 11 threes. Eau Claire is 2-0 in the WIAC for the first time since the 2010-11 season.
NAIA – The Master’s (Calif.)
Head Coach: Kelvin Starr
The Master’s completed a perfect 3-0 week, including a pair of GSAC victories. The Mustangs beat Calgary 75-68 on Monday, No. 25 William Jessup 81-78 on Thursday, and Menlo 91-77 on Saturday. The wins improved The Master’s to 14-2 overall and 4-1 in league play this season and stretched the program’s home winning streak to 29-straight games.
NJCAA/Two-Year Colleges – Northwest Florida
Head Coach: Steve DeMeo
Northwest Florida went 2-1 last week, including victories over Coastal Alabama-North and Pensacola State by a combined 32 points. The Raiders opened the week with a 98-71 win over Coastal Alabama on Monday, and after a one-point setback to Shelton State, rebounded to defeat Pensacola State 92-77 to open conference play. The Raiders are now 15-2 overall this season.
