Jan. 17, 2007

Indianapolis, IN (Jan. 11, 2007) - During the recent 2007 NCAA Convention in Orlando, the Division II Conference Commissioner's Association saluted Disney's Wide World of Sports® for a decade of service, support and commitment to Division II student-athletes, coaches and institutions.

Since opening in 1997, Disney's Wide World of Sports® Complex in Lake Buena Vista, Florida has served as the home site of Disney's Division II Men's & Women's Basketball Tip-Off Classic. With nearly 100 NCAA Division II institutions having participated in the preseason basketball tournaments over the past ten years, Disney's Division II Tip-Off Classic has become so successful that next fall games will not only be played in the Walt Disney World Resort in Florida, but also will be played on the West Coast in Anaheim, California near the Disneyland Resort.

In addition, Disney's Wide World of Sports® has co-sponsored the Division II Conference Commissioner's Association Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards since 1999. The award, presented to the top female and male Division II Scholar-Athletes, highlights the extraordinary academic, athletic and community service achievements of Division II student-athletes.

"It is a great honor to receive this award because of what it represents; team effort represented by the Division II Conference Commissioners Association, the NCAA and Disney Sports Attractions," said Fred Schoeler, sports area manager for Disney Sports Attractions. "A team whose goals are to provide an outstanding competition for the athletes and their schools, to provide a platform for learning and education, to teach the fundamentals of sportsmanship and fair play and to mentor the student-athletes to become better citizens and future leaders."

"Disney's Division II Tip-Off Classic and the Disney's Division II Scholar-Athlete Awards have been tremendous programs for our Division II student-athletes and institutions over the past ten years, "said Mike Marcil, commissioner of the Sunshine State Conference. "We also are very excited about how those programs will continue to grow in the future and contribute even more to the Division II strategic positioning, community engagement and identity initiatives."

Bob Hiegert, commissioner of the California Collegiate Athletic Association, the host conference for the Disney Tip Off Classic games that will be played near the Disneyland Resort in Anaheim said, "As the DII CCA and Disney's Division II Tip-Off Classic start the second decade of partnership, the CCAA is excited and pleased to a part of the expansion. The West Disney Division II Tip-Off Classic games are scheduled for November 1-4, 2007. Four women's and four men's teams will compete in this inaugural event. As this premier tournament continues to expand, quality Division II men's and women's basketball will be on display from the Atlantic to the Pacific coasts."
