Thanks are in order to each of you who visited with your director of athletics during the past months concerning legislative proposal 2005-54. This legislative action was passed in April, 2006 by the NCAA Board of Directors. It permitted a student-athlete who graduates and has eligibility remaining to transfer to another Division I institution and become immediately eligible to compete.

Based on the NCAA Bylaws, an override by the Division I membership of a legislative action of the Board of Directors requires a 5/8 (62.5%) vote of the Division I institutions and conferences in attendance during the Division I Legislative Forum held during the annual NCAA Convention. That forum was held this past Saturday, January 6. When the votes were tallied on the motion to override 2005-54, the override was approved. 70% supported the override, 30% opposed.

This override eliminates the opportunity for a graduate student-athlete with eligibility remaining to transfer and be immediately eligible beyond the present 2006-07 academic year and basketball season.

Again, thank you for your effort to inform your director of athletics about your position on 2005-54!
