Werner Presents Ladder to KU's Bill Self

Dec. 8, 2008

In partnership with the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC), Werner Ladder, the Official Ladder of the NCAA® Basketball Championships, presented Coach Bill Self and the University of Kansas Jayhawks athletics department with a pair of Werner ladders in honor of their 2008 NCAA® Division I Men's Basketball National Championship.

One ladder, used to cut down the championship nets, was given to Coach Self while the second was autographed by Coach Self and will be auctioned off at a later date with proceeds going to the Bill and Cindy Self Assists Foundation. The ladders were presented prior to the 2008 O'Reilly Auto Parts CBE Classic in Kansas City, Missouri, on Monday, November 24, 2008. The announcement of the presentation took place during half-time of the first game of a doubleheader at the Sprint Center pitting Syracuse University against the University of Florida. Kansas played the University of Washington in the second game. Syracuse nipped Kansas in overtime in the championship game of the 2008 O'Reilly Auto Parts CBE Classic.

"Cutting down the nets after winning a championship is one of the greatest moments in basketball," said Jim Haney, executive director of the NABC. "We're very pleased that Werner Ladder has joined with the NABC to add a charitable component to this longstanding tradition."

About the National Association of Basketball Coaches

Located in Kansas City, Missouri, the NABC was founded in 1927 by Forrest "Phog" Allen, the legendary basketball coach at the University of Kansas. Allen, a student of James Naismith, the inventor of basketball, organized coaches into this collective group to serve as Guardians of the Game. The NABC currently claims nearly 5,000 members consisting primarily of university and college men's basketball coaches. All members of the NABC are expected to uphold the core values of being a Guardian of the Game by bringing attention to the positive aspects of the sport of basketball and the role coaches play in the academic and athletic lives of today's student-athletes. The four core values of being a Guardian of the Game are advocacy, leadership, service and education. Additional information about the NABC, its programs and membership, can be found at www.nabc.com.
