Bostwick Named NAIA Division II Coach of the Year

POINT LOOKOUT, Mo. - After leading Oklahoma Wesleyan University to a 30-win regular season and the top seed in the NAIA Division II National Championship tournament, head coach Donnie Bostwick has been named the NAIA National Coach of the Year by the National Association of Basketball Coaches.

NAIA President/CEO Jim Carr made the presentation to Bostwick Sunday night at the Hall of Fame & semifinalists banquet on the Showboat Branson Belle in Point Lookout, Mo., site of the Division II Men's Basketball National Championship.

Bostwick, who guided the Eagles to their first national tournament appearance in 2008 in his first season as head coach, led his club to regular season and conference tournament titles in the Midlands Collegiate Athletic Conference this season. Oklahoma Wesleyan has been the top-ranked team in the NAIA Division II poll for four weeks as it begins play in the 32-team tournament.

About the National Association of Basketball Coaches Located in Kansas City, Mo., the NABC was founded in 1927 by Phog Allen, the legendary basketball coach at the University of Kansas. Allen, a student of James Naismith, the inventor of basketball, organized coaches into this collective group to serve as Guardians of the Game. The NABC currently claims nearly 5,000 members consisting primarily of university and college men's basketball coaches. All members of the NABC are expected to uphold the core values of being a Guardian of the Game by bringing attention to the positive aspects of the sport of basketball and the role coaches play in the academic and athletic lives of today's student-athletes.
