College Credit to be offered again at 2012 NABC Convention
Summer Institutes Program Offered for Professional Development Series
The NABC is proud to continue the Professional Development Series ("PDS") - college credit for the 2012 NABC Convention in New Orleans. Beginning in 2011 in Houston, NABC member coaches have the opportunity to amplify their participation in the PDS and earn college credit in the process.
The NABC has a partnership with Summer Institutes to create this college credit program. The actual accreditation comes through Pacific Lutheran University. The Summer Institutes conducts a similar program for football coaches that attend the AFCA Convention. The AFCA program was created and administered by Dick Comar, a longtime member of the AFCA. Coach Comar is also coordinating the NABC program.
"We are excited to be able to offer continuing education credits to the coaches of all levels that participate in the (Professional Development Series)", notes Troy Hilton, NABC Director of Association Affairs. "
The PDS has been a comprehensive, on-going continuing education program for basketball coaches of all levels since 2004. The focus of the program is to develop well-rounded coaches on a professional (on & off the court) and on a personal level.
Requirements for the traditional PDS certification included attending 5 PDS-designated seminars and/or meetings. To earn university credit, an NABC-member coach will be required to complete 15 PDS hours at the convention and submit a paper.
Enrollment in the traditional PDS certification process is automatic with registering for the convention and the cost is included in the convention fee. Enrollment for the college credit program will have an incremental online registration process and tuition associated with it.
