Launch Using Your Star

Although a talented player may add to a coach's intelligence level, there are some real and difficult problems a star and his coach have to face in dealing with publicity, agents and jealousy of other players. You must stay in contact with your star. Learn all that you can about him--his background and ambitions. Convince him of his roll in the team scheme of things. Don't let him go into isolation. Make him be a leader.

In using your star you must always be conscious of weakside help. Develop your offense so that you eliminate or minimize weakside help.

Fast Break

We believe in the fast break. We want our No. 1 guard to have the ball in the middle. We will take the 10' jump shot. Basketball is a % game. We believe that the team that gets the most fast breaks and transition baskets will win the ball game. However, when you have a star of Aguirre's ability you must be a little careful about running down and shooting the ball too quickly.
