We have used the 2-game for our last five years at the University of
New Mexico where we averaged twenty-one wins per season and then we
went to Cal-Berkeley and we used it again to take CAL to the best round
in thirty years by winning twenty-two games. We will now see it here
at Fresno State University.
This man-to-man
(sometimes zone) offense is what we run, basically because we wanted
something to use in high pressure situations that was predicated on
a pass--no signals, but a pass was the key to the other four of what
we were going to run. It has great spacing and I refer to spacing because
that helps eliminate help. It is outstanding against pressure and that's
why late in a game it is at its best. It is also a very refreshing offense
that looks pretty, but it is also very effective. It incorporates all
of our philosophy. It is good because we believe it is good and that
my friend, is a big key for us as coaches--Faith.
So, here is the
2-game concept and the one thing that enters my mind that I've learned
(actually re-learned) is the control of a game you can have with your
offense. The other thing is the work, reset--if it doesn't work, quickly
reset it and run it over. The best results seem to come after you've
brought it out and tried a different approach such as starting with
the wing series and coming back out with a reset and now hitting hard
with the post series.
